British human rights activist: Morocco repeats Israeli practices in Western Sahara

A london-based human rights activist, Stephan Simanowitz, said that the Morocco repeated the Israeli methods in Western Sahara by dividing the country through a military wall, among the world’s largest barriers, Sahrawi news agency (SPS) reported on Monday. The Saharawi activist stressed during the show "Africa Today" aired Sunday by the English-language Iranian channel that the occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco is "contrary to the international law," adding that Moroccan colonization of Western Sahara is a "violation" of Article 49 of the Geneva Convention. The Polisario Front deputy representative to the United Kingdom, Sidi Brahim Breika, who participated in the show stated that according to international law, Western Sahara issue is that of the decolonization of Africa’s last colony. "The fact that colonization still exists in Africa is outrageous," he said. The Saharawi diplomat called on the international community, including the United Nations to shoulder their responsibilities towards Western Sahara. Besides, Sidi Breika mentioned in his intervention the continuing abuses of human rights in Western Sahara occupied territories, calling on the UN to assume its responsibility so as to end the Saharawi people’s sufferings. The Saharawi people are determined to fulfill their aspirations for freedom and independence, he concluded.
