
One boy was confirmed killed and 23 more injured in Mexico's northeastern state of Nuevo Leon Sunday when a church under construction collapsed after days of heavy rains, local official said. According to Rodolfo Ambriz, mayor of Benito Juarez municipality, where Santa Clara de Asis church is located, the accident occurred on Sunday morning at around 10 a.m. local time. Rescue workers from the local Civil Protection Office and the Red Cross arrived to the site of the accident to rescue the people trapped under the debris and take the injured ones to local hospitals. According to the preliminary investigations, the collapse was caused due to the torrential rains affecting several regions in Mexico in the last few weeks. Including the boy in this accident, 147 people have died in Mexico due to effects of the strong rains caused by hurricane Ingrid and tropical storm Manuel.
