The Azeri military attaché to Iran said Thursday that Baku has adopted policy on promotion of cooperation with Tehran.Mehman Suleymanov told IRNA that Azerbaijan is keen on the expansion of cooperation in various fields, the defense area in particular. Suleymanov referred to Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi’s recent visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan and termed it as a great step to further bilateral defense relations. On political relations, the Azeri official said a joint meeting between the foreign ministers of Iran, Azerbaijan and Turkey is due to be held in a near future focusing on political issues. He then said the Azeri defense minister is planned to fly to Iran at the beginning of 2012 in order to confer with his Iranian counterpart on various regional and bilateral issues.
