Geneva - BNA
The kingdom of Bahrain's parliamentary delegation, including MP Dr. Jamal Salah and Shura Council member Hala Ramzi, took part in the UN Human rights Council (UNHRC)'s session, currently held here.
Following the session, Head of the delegation MP Dr. Jamal Salah stated that the delegation's participation in such an international meeting is in line with the Legislative Authority's desire to follow up on Bahrain's affairs at international organisations, project the real image of what is going on in it and highlight its landmark achievements in the field of human rights over a short period of time.
He said that during the session, the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay talked about some issues related to Bahrain, noting that more efforts should be exerted in order to highlight Bahrain's achievements in guaranteeing the freedom of expression, and expose the reality of those who claim to be human rights activists but use that as a political cover to implement suspicious agendas that are hostile to the kingdom.
He called for the need to make a difference between peaceful demonstrations, allowed by many countries, including Bahrain which has never denied an authorized rally that meets the requirements, and terrorists who use Molotov cocktails, block roads and target the security forces with home-made weapons.
He added that there was no reason to cancel or postpone the visit of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment, noting that after the issuance of the report of the Bahrain Independent Commission for Inquiry (BICI), Bahrain has become free from any forms of torture, which, he said, is crystal clear and no one can deny it.
He stressed that the establishment of the Commission of the Rights of Prisoners and Detainees will consolidate the kingdom's human rights record.
He pointed out that the government has implemented "many" BICI recommendations, calling upon it to brief the public on the latest developments in this regard.
