A Bahraini opposition leader took Washington responsible for insults to Islam, and stressed that the recent desecration of the Holy Qur'an was part of the US and the West's campaign against Islam. "The US and the West make use of any means to insult Islam, among them is accusing Muslims of terrorism and insult to the Holy Quran which both take place in the framework of trampling Muslim sanctities," Secretary-General of the National Democratic Action Society of Bahrain Fazel Abbas told FNA on Wednesday. He further blasted the promotion of terrorism and racism by the West, and called for the mobilization of the entire Muslim community against such acts. "The US is responsible for insults to Islam and the slogan 'Down with the US' should be kept alive and spread among Muslims in a bid to demonstrate the Muslims' wrath," Abbas reiterated. The remarks by the Bahraini opposition figure came after the US soldier set fire to several copies of the Holy Quran at a NATO base in Afghanistan. At least 25 people have been killed and hundreds have been wounded in protests against the desecration of the Holy Quran in Afghanistan since it first emerged that copies of Quran and religious materials had been thrown into a fire pit used to burn garbage at Bagram Air Field. Americans have set fire to the copies of the Holy Quran on several occasions thus far. Angry Afghans have staged increasing protests across the war-torn country since the US troops burnt the Holy Quran in their base in Afghanistan.
