Geneva - BNA
Human Rights Minister, Dr. Salah Bin Ali Abdul Rahman and the accompanying delegation participated in the 24th session of Human Rights Council’s meetings of the regional groups.
Dr. Salah and the accompanying delegation met with Ambassador Luis Gallegos Chiriboga, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Ecuador and Coordinator of the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC), and Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, the Permanent Representative of Cuba at U.N. Office in Geneva, Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo.
The Minister of Human Rights expressed his delight for the Bahraini delegation having the opportunity to relate the recent developments in the area of human rights for the Latin American countries. He presented a detailed explanation on the implementation of the recommendations of Human Rights Council, as well as implementing the recommendations of Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry.
The minister also highlighted the reasons that made the National Assembly issue special recommendations concerned with combating terrorism through addressing its legislative, social, educational and economic sides.
Dr. Salah also reviewed the developments in the area of reinforcing and protecting human rights in Bahrain, such as establishing a ministry concerned with human rights, establishing a national foundation for human rights, establishing the Ombudsman, creating two posts of General Inspectors at Interior Ministry and National Security Device, and establishing two committees for human rights in Councils of Shura and Representatives.
The minister highlighted his aspiration that the International Community provides enough time for these foundations and devices to ensure the faithful intention of the Kingdom of Bahrain in protecting and reinforcing human rights.
The minister also briefed the two Ambassadors on the decree of establishing a commission for prisoners and detainees which was recently issued, and which proved that the march of reinforcing and protecting human rights in Bahrain was a continuous, consecutive, renewable and capable of developing process.
Dr. Salah expressed his sorrow for the acts of violence and their escalation recently in Bahrain, and turning into terrorist attacks where they used advanced bombings locally made, which resulted in the killing of some policemen and injuring many as well. These acts also targeted the foreign labour, affected the national economy, and citizens and residents in the districts witnessed them.
For his part, the Ecuador Ambassador welcomed the positive developments and achievements in the Kingdom, and recommended briefing the other regional groups on them.
On the other hand, the Cuban Ambassador praised the strong relations bonding Bahrain and Cuba, and expressed her readiness to support Bahrain with all possible means, but highlighted her sorrow on the way foreign countries deal with such developments in Bahrain, particularly in their information and attacks, pointing out that such threats and comments should be related by other diplomatic means.
At the end of the meeting, the minister thanked Ecuador Ambassador and the Cuban Ambassador for meeting with the Bahraini delegation to highlight their point of view concerning various issues of human rights, and their stances supporting the Kingdom
