Assistant Secretary General for Palestine and occupied Arab lands at the Arab League (AL) Saeed Abu Ali on Sunday called for supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to continue providing its services, especially in the education field, for all Palestinians.
Delivering a speech before the 26th meeting between education officials at the UNRWA and the Council for Educational Affairs of Palestinian Children at the AL, Abu Ali pointed the key role played by the UNRWA in serving Palestinian refugees in all domains, including the education.
He reaffirmed that the AL is keen on backing the UNRWA through cementing joint cooperation in the education area to upgrade the level of education services offered to Palestinian refugees.
Also, he appreciated the important role of countries hosting Palestinian refugees, saying the UNRWA has been giving a top priority for the issue of educating Palestinian refugees since its establishment.
Israel used to harm the Palestinian educational process, considering it one of the significant pillars of resistance and the Palestinian identity, according to Abu Ali.
Israel is deliberately working on halting the Palestinian educational march and spreading illiteracy inside the Palestinian community, especially in the Area C of the West Bank, the Hebron City and Al Quds, he noted.
Furthermore, the Israeli occupation authorities are intentionally trying to disrupt the movement of Palestinian students and teachers by setting up several checkpoints and reducing the school days by shutting down schools, he underlined.
