Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal Underlined Iran's important role in the establishment of peace and security in the region. Speaking at a meeting with a visiting Iranian parliamentary delegation in Algiers on Monday, the Algerian prime minister said that Iran, as a regional power, can play an important role in maintaining the stability of the Middle-East. Sellal described Algeria’s stance towards Iran as brotherly and friendly, adding that regional and international cooperation between Iran and Algeria is aimed at the resolution of regional disputes. A senior Iranian parliamentary delegation headed by Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi Saturday left Tehran for Algiers for an official visit to the Muslim country. Boroujerdi and his accompanying delegation discussed various issues of mutual interest with Speaker of the Algerian National People’s Assembly Mohammed Al-Arabi Ould Khalifa on Sunday. In recent years, Iran has sought hard to boost ties and cooperation with Africa. Iran is an observing member of the African Union (AU) and has shown an active presence in previous AU summit meetings.
