Abu Dhabi e-Government Supervisory Committee
Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

The Abu Dhabi e-Government Supervisory Committee held its second inaugural meeting since its establishment last February, alongside a meeting of the Digital Transformation Leadership Team on 24 March 2016, to discuss a number of key digital transformation plans and projects of entities that form the Committee.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Health Authority and Chairman of the Committee, and attended by director generals, acting directors, and CEO's from the member entities.

"The committee has come a long way since its establishment last February, allowing us to further support digital policies and plans within its well-organised and clear operational framework. This has helped activate digital transformation governance to enhance the formation of a smart government based on significant and effective services for users, ranging from individuals to the private and government sectors," said Dr. Al Khaili.

"We are looking forward to achieving further progress in our capacity as a supervisory committee. The developments that we reviewed today have encouraged us to continue coordinating with our fellow members to define and overcome any challenges related to full digital transformation, in our quest to develop an integrated ICT sector on par with global best practices and standards," added Al Khaili.

"Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC), shed the spotlight on several initiatives aimed at raising the pace of development in the ICT sector and to set standards on a long term basis. For example, we are currently supervising a project that aims to exchange information between 20 government entities in Abu Dhabi. This project has been designed to raise productivity, enhance the quality of life of end-users and strengthen the positioning of Abu Dhabi as an ideal investment and business destination," said Rashid Lahej Al Mansoori, Director General of ADSIC and Head of the Digital Transformation Leadership Team.

The committee’s second meeting commenced with a presentation by ADSIC that included an introduction to the ‘Smart Government Program’ and the ‘Government Data Exchange Program’. In addition, ADSIC presented the top 20 government services in Abu Dhabi.

Furthermore, the second inaugural meeting consisted of presentations from the Committee’s members, including an overview by the Abu Dhabi Department of Finance on an ‘E-Payment Platform for the Abu Dhabi Government,’ and the Department of Municipal Affairs on ‘Centres to Provide Unified Government Services’, as well as a presentation on ‘Digital Transformation Plans’ by each of the members.

Key roles and responsibilities of the supervisory committee include reviewing and adopting e-government strategies and digital transformation plans and defining their priorities, confirming their consistency with the overarching Abu Dhabi government strategy, reviewing and approving ICT policies, evaluating workflow reports and identifying challenges or risks related to modernising government services by providing effective relevant guidance and consultation.

The Digital Transformation Leadership Team headed by ADSIC will be responsible for reviewing the e-government strategy and its initiatives, raising recommendations to the Committee, and reviewing and evaluating various requests made by participating government entities, among others.

The supervisory committee consists of the Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC), Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, Al Ain Municipality, the Western Region Municipality, Abu Dhabi Department of Finance, the Department of Economic Development, the Department of Municipal Affairs, Abu Dhabi Health Authority, Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA), the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority, the Abu Dhabi Education Council, the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, and the General Directorate of Residence and Foreign Affairs.
