President Mahmoud Abbas, who arrived Monday in the Jordanian capital Amman coming from Cairo, discussed in telephone call with Nabil el-Araby, secretary general of the Arab League, ways to pursue and implement the decisions of the Arab League’s follow-up committee. Abbas had asked the Arab League follow-up committee on peace in the Middle East, which met on Sunday in Cairo, its advice on the next move following failure of the exploratory talks with Israel held in Jordan last month. Abbas told the meeting that he will write letters to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and world leaders explaining the Palestinian position from the peace process. He said he will wait for answers from them, but if the answers were negative he intends to pursue other options by resuming efforts to get United Nations recognition of Palestine as a member-state and join UN agencies.
