Three senior officials were suspended from their posts at Linzhou Public Security Bureau in central China's Henan Province on Monday after a policeman allegedly attacked a baby girl after drinking alcohol. The bureau chief, political commissar and deputy secretary of the bureau's committee of Communist Party of China have been suspended, said an official with the Public Security Bureau of Anyang City, which governs Linzhou. The case caught public attention nearly a month later after Beijing-based newspaper The Mirror reported it on Saturday. The coverage prompted local authorities to set up an investigation team to look into Guo Zengxi's alleged attack and potential mishandling of the case by local authorities. Guo, a Linzhou police officer, allegedly threw a seven-month-old baby to the ground after eating and drinking alcohol with friends in a restaurant on the evening of July 18. The baby was immediately rushed to hospital while Guo was also hospitalized after he was beaten by locals. Authorities did not bring any charges against Guo, though he was detained for 15 days. The baby was treated for multiple brain injuries and discharged from Anyang Regional Hospital on Aug. 5. Ren Wenli, the mother, said her daughter is easily startled and is afraid of strangers since the incident. The girl still had a bump on the back of her head on Sunday and a doctor said she could suffer after effects from the trauma. Anyang police on Saturday detained Guo on suspicion of intentional injury, according to Guo Fajie, head of Anyang Public Security Bureau.
