Tikrit - UPI

Explosions at a mosque and hospital in Tikrit, Iraq, claimed at least 34 lives, officials say. Scores more people were wounded in Friday's twin attacks in the city that was the home town of the late Iraqi despot Saddam Hussein, The Washington Post reported. The first bomb hit during prayers at a Sunni mosque frequented by high-ranking local officials. Many of them were thought to have been inside at the time of the attack that killed at least 17 people and wounded at least 50 more, the Post said. Several hours later, a suicide bomber detonated his explosives near a hospital's emergency room, Dr. Mohammad Qasem told the newspaper. He said at least 17 people, including doctors, died in that attack, as well. Qasem said the dual bombings "represent the collapse of moral Iraq." "If we want to rebuild the morals of this country, I believe we need 100 years," he said. "I've decided to leave this county within one week."
