Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

As per the directives of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, 18 Somali victims injured during the recent terror explosion in the capital Mogadishu have been transferred to Kenya for treatment under the supervision of a UAE medical team.

The UAE Ambassador to Somalia Mohamed Ahmed A Othman and the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, delegation in the country along with the Somali health and information ministers and a number of parliamentarians were present at the Mogadishu International Airport as the second batch of the Somali victims left for Nairobi aboard a well-equipped medical aircraft accompanied by UAE doctors.

This is the second batch of the Somali victims being transferred for treatment in Kenyan hospitals along with their attendants at the expense of the UAE government as part of a noble initiative by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to cover the treatment costs of 100 injured persons and transfer critical cases for treatment in neighbouring Kenya. The UAE is bearing the full treatment costs, providing the victims and their attendants with all means of comfort during their stay in Kenya until recovery.

The Somali ministers expressed sincere appreciation for the UAE humanitarian gesture and the country's continued support for the Somali people in their untold suffering.

The families of the victims spoke high of the supportive stances adopted by the UAE President, the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and the follow-up of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra and ERC Chairman.
