UN Security Council condemns suicide bombings in Lebanon
New York - Arab Today

The UN Security Council has condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks in Qaa, Lebanon, which resulted in many deaths and injuries.

In a statement issued yesterday evening, the Council underlined the need to bring the perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice, and urged all states, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Lebanese authorities in this regard.

The 15-member body reiterated their commitment to Lebanon's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity, as well as to its security.

The members of the Security Council stressed the need to take measures to prevent and suppress the financing of terrorism, terrorist organisations and individual terrorists, in accordance with the relevant international resolutions. The statement said that the Council members reiterated the fact that terrorism, in all its forms and manifestations, is criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of its motivation and wherever, whenever and by whomsoever it is committed, and should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilisation or ethnic group.

The members of the Security Council also reaffirmed the need for all states to combat by all means, in accordance with the UN Charter and other obligations under international law, in particular international human rights law, international refugee law and international humanitarian law, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.
