Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with his Sudanese counterpart Al Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed on the sidelines of the 73rd UN General Assembly in New York.

The meeting tackled bilateral relations and regional issues of mutual concern, said the Egyptian foreign ministry's spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

Shoukry lauded the deepening of ties, citing the outcome of meetings of top officials held in Cairo in August, said Abu Zeid.

The top diplomat underlined the importance of implementing the results of the meetings to serve the common interests of Egypt and Sudan, added the spokesman.

He also highlighted the significance of regular political consultations between respective foreign ministries.

As for regional issues, the foreign ministers discussed the situation in South Sudan, said Abu Zeid, adding that Shoukry hailed Khartoum's efforts to sign a peace agreement between the warring parties in Sudan Sudan.

The Sudanese government's endeavour to bring about peace in Sudan was also lauded by the Egyptian foreign minister.
