'SpongeBob' soaks 'Sniper' at the North American box office

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water has ended the three-week reign of American Sniper at the top of the North American box office, Rentrak announced Sunday.
The animated and live-action hybrid featuring Antonio Banderas earned $56 million in receipts this weekend.
Coming in at No. 2 is American Sniper with $24.2 million, followed by Jupiter Ascending at No. 3 with $19 million, Seventh Son at No. 4 with $7.1 million and Paddington at No. 5 with $5.4 million.
Rounding out the top tier are Project Almanac at No. 6 with $5.3 million, The Imitation Game at No. 7 with $4.9 million, The Wedding Ringer at No. 8 with $4.8 million, Black or White at No. 9 with $4.5 million and The Boy Next Door at No. 10 with $4.1 million.
