Little ones were taken on a magical adventure during the weekend thanks to the show ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea,’ which was staged at Masrah Al Qasba - Theatre, receiving a huge footfall of audience. Three performances of the famous children’s story play took place at the venue, with each one eliciting laughter and sounds of delight from the children attending.

Based on the renowned story by British author Judith Kerr, the play recreated the tale of the young Sophie who answers the door to a tiger ringing her doorbell and asking if he can have something to eat. Sophie duly lets the tiger in and offers him tea and cake, but he eats and drinks everything in the house. Sophie’s mother then can’t find anything to cook for her dad when he comes back from work, so they explain about the tiger and what he did. Sophie’s dad then takes them out to dinner. On their way home, they buy food, including some for the tiger.

Speaking about the play, Sultan Mohammed Shattaf, Al Qasba Manager, said; “TheTiger who came to Tea stage show was just one of the many cultural and entertainment activities that Al Qasba management hosts throughout the year, with its array of

international events including plays, art shows, exhibitions and festivals. We aim to cater to families of from all parts of the world with our programme of entertainment and highlight Al Qasba as a unique family destination that has something for every generation.”

The children attending The Tiger Who Came to Tea enjoyed the interaction of the show’s characters and happily sang and danced along with its songs, with the music for the play composed and directed by Officer of the Order of the British Empire holder David Wood. Designed to be lighthearted and entertaining, the stage production also conveyed a serious message about the relationship between people and animals, the ethical treatment of animals and how to help them when they are in need.

Al Qasba has a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art facilities and tourist attractions, including restaurants, cafés, Kids Fun Zone, Al Qasba Musical Fountain, Eye of the Emirates Wheel and the Maraya Art Centre.
