Seoul - QNA

The number of new human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) carriers in South Korea exceeded the 1,000 mark last year, government data showed.
The data from the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) showed that the number of newly reported HIV-positive people in South Korea was 1,114 in 2013, up 16 percent from the previous year, according to South Korea's (Yonhap) News Agency.
Of the total, 1,013 were South Koreans and 101 foreigners, showed the data.
In addition, the number of South Korean AIDS deaths increased to 139 in 2013 from 110 in 2012.
Despite the rise in AIDS deaths, the government plans to decrease its budget for HIV-positive people to 9.5 billion won about (US$9.3 million) in 2015 from 10 billion won this year, according to the data.
