Harare - Spa

The number of typhoid cases in Zimbabwe's capital city of Harare continues to increase as the city battles to contain the disease, local media reported. Health services director Dr. Prosper Chonzi told The Herald that they had treated 50 more cases, which brought the total number to 650. The cases continue to grow. "They are still trickling in," he said. He said 20 patients had been discharged from the Beatrice Infectious Diseases Hospital but the numbers admitted continue to grow as new patients were admitted. "We are comfortable with about 60 patients. We do not want to overstretch the hospital," Xinhua quoted Dr. Chonzi as saying. According to expert information on typhoid, most people show symptoms one to three weeks after exposure. The symptoms are fever, headaches, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation, poor appetite, lethargy and delirium.
