Abu Dhabi - WAM

The Law Respect Culture Bureau at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior has held awareness sessions for the Ministry of Interior's Centres for Rehabilitation and Employment of People with Special Needs. The sessions concentrated on the rights and duties of this community segment, in terms of laws and police work. Captain Abdullah Al Dahmani, Director of Studies Branch at the Law Respect Culture Bureau, said that educating the disabled and raising their awareness of the law is among the first priorities of the Law Respect Culture Bureau. Since it was inaugurated, the bureau had paid special attention to this essential community segment. For the bureau, all authorities must direct their educational efforts to the disabled and show them special care and attention. Captain Al Dahmani highlighted the concept of the law respect culture and its importance for individuals, because it guarantees the individual's protection against violations of the law. He also stressed the importance of individuals' basic awareness of the law which enables them to know their rights and duties, both on personal and professional levels. Captain Al Dahmani spoke about disabled people's rights which are outlined in Federal Law No. 29 of 2006. The law guarantees equality and non-discrimination against the disabled. The law also supports legal help for the disabled when their freedom is curtailed for any legal considerations. It also guarantees equal opportunities in terms of education and employment. Al Dahmani explained that although the law grants special rights and privileges to the disabled, it also imposed legal duties they must abide by in order to avoid any legal consequences.
