Dubai - Arabstoday

A year-long inspection programme has been initiated by authorities in Dubai to ensure quality and safety of various dairy products imported or supplied in the emirate. This is aimed at ensuring that all dairy food items used by the residents are free from any sort of dangerous bacteria or food poisoning agent. The programme, a joint initiative of Dubai Central Lab (DCL) and Food Control Department at Dubai Municipality (DM), aims at safeguarding the consumers’ health from bacterial and parasitic pathogens in contaminated dairy products.A DM statement said that the examination programme will cover various dairy products imported through the land, sea and air ports as well as samples from dairy producing establishments in the emirate. The DCL will carry out microbiological tests on the products to identify presence of highly dangerous E-coli and Coli bacteria as well as other contaminations like yeasts and fungus.“The move is aimed to ensure the highest quality of products which are tested in different stages of manufacturing and preserving in accordance with the conditions and criteria approved in the UAE as well as the global specifications,” added the statement.According to it, curd is an essential and important drink during the Ramadan for many families. It is developed by adding lactic acid bacteria to liquid milk, which gives it a distinctive sour taste. The acidity will be different depending on the activity of bacteria added to milk. Some prefer the taste of too much acid while others prefer less acidic taste. There are many types of curd milk after the addition of different flavours to suit the tastes of consumers.
