A program to treat multiple sclerosis (MS), a nervous system disease, has seen good results among Cuban patients, said experts on Thursday.

This program uses a unique procedure, designed in Cuba to combat the disease by specialists in the central province of Sancti Spiritus, and will now be extended to other Cuban health centers.

According to the Cuba Si news portal, Rodneys Jimenez, the project's leading researcher, explained that this treatment seeks to prevent patients in the advanced stages of MS from further deterioration.

It seeks to tackle the treatment in a holistic way, addressing the patient's motor functions, emotional state and manual abilities to give them a better quality of life.

Multiple sclerosis often disrupts the ability of parts of the nervous system to communicate, resulting in physical, mental and sometimes psychiatric problems.

This disease remains incurable until now and is most common in people aged between 20 to 40. The only treatment currently is to control the symptoms and improve the quality of patients' life.
