On the occasion of HRH The Prince of Wales and HRH The http://www.arabtoday.net/news-255/hrh-crown-prince-bids-farewell-to-the-prince-of-wales-and-hrh-142753Duchess of Cornwall’s visit to the Post Office Museum, which comes as part of their Royal Highnesses multi-country visit across the region to promote UK relations, His Excellency the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications praised Bahrain’s longstanding and historic ties with the United Kingdom. 

In this regard, His Excellency the Minister underscored the strong, wide-ranging and mutually beneficial bi-lateral relationship that spans economic, cultural, political and defence-related areas.

 

During the tour, His Excellency the Minister provided their Royal Highnesses with an overview of the museum, which documents key historical moments of Bahrain’s postage heritage since its inception in 1884. His Excellency highlighted that the museum was established to preserve and display all postal stamps issued by the Kingdom as well as showcase postage stamps from more than 150 Universal Postal Union member states and postal machinery and equipment. 

 

HRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall were also shown several historic postage stamps that serve as testament to the strong relationship between the Kingdom and UK as Bahrain gained training and expertise in managing postal affairs from the Royal Mail. 

 

Postage stamps marking the 200th anniversary of relations between Bahrain and the UK were unveiled by HRH The Prince of Wales and a commemorative gift was presented by His Excellency the Minister to His Royal Highness in honour of the visit. 

 

Her Highness Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, Wife of His Highness Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad the personal representative of His Majesty the King and the Minister-in-attendance, His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa were also in attendance. 

 

 

The Post Office Museum has undergone several significant transitions since its original establishment in 1964 by the Ministry of Finance, then responsible for all postal services in the Kingdom. The museum was first relocated in 1986 to the Ministry of Transportation’s headquarters, where it became the first permanent postage stamp museum in the Middle East region, until it finally shifted to its current location in 2015 following an official inauguration held under the patronage of His Royal Highness the Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.
