Hamdan bin Zayed Inaugurates ADNOC’s Habshan 5 Gas Processing Plant
Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra, officially inaugurated ADNOC's Habshan 5 gas processing plant on Friday.

‏The plant, which is linked, via a 215 km pipeline, to ADNOC’s offshore Umm Shaif gas field, has four gas processing trains and four sulphur recovery units. Its daily production capacity is 12,000 tons of natural gas liquids, 1.1 billion of sales gas; 5,200 tons of liquid sulphur and 3,000 barrels of condensate.

‏H.H. Sheikh Hamdan was welcomed to Habshan 5 by H.E. Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State and ADNOC Group CEO, Abdulaziz Abdulla Al Hajri, Downstream Director at ADNOC, and Dr. Saif Sultan Al Nasseri, ADNOC Gas Processing CEO and other members of ADNOC’s Executive Leadership Team.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan was accompanied by Eng. Awaidha Murshed Al Marar, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Energy Department, and Staff Major General Pilot Faris Khalaf Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Chief of the General Authority for the Security of Ports, Borders and Free Zones.

‏During his visit to Habshan 5, Sheikh Hamdan toured the plant and visited the main control room, where he was briefed on the plant’s advanced process control system and met female ADNOC employees working at the facility. He also attended a welcome reception at the Habshan 5’s Heritage Village, which celebrates the history of the UAE and its founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

‏H.H. Sheikh Hamdan expressed his support for ADNOC’s 2030 strategy, a key pillar of which is to provide an economic and sustainable gas supply in support of the UAE’s long-term goal to become self-sufficient in domestic power generation.

‏Dr Al Jaber said: "Habshan 5 will help ADNOC provide the gas necessary to meet the nation’s increasing demand for electricity. It is a critical component in delivering our integrated gas strategy as we continue to focus on extracting maximum value from our assets, for the benefit of the nation."

‏"One of the most advanced gas processing plants in the world, Habshan 5 is a prime example of how ADNOC is deploying advanced, best-in-class technology to enhance its operational performance and ensure it secures even higher levels of success."

‏With a feed gas processing capacity of 2.32 billion standard cubic feet per day (BSCFD), Habshan 5’s capacity utilization of its processing trains has been enhanced to 110 per cent, enabling the plant to process an additional 134 million SCFD.

‏Habshan 5 is the first ADNOC gas processing facility to be designed with integrated flare gas recovery units to reduce its environmental impact. It can extract more than 99 per cent of NGL, to maximise value, and its sulphur recovery units are integrated with the tail gas treatment units to improve sulphur recovery to up to 99.99 per cent.

‏As part of ADNOC’s Integrated Gas Development expansion project, Habshan 5’s gas processing capacity will increase by 20 per cent, or 400 million SCFD, in the second half of 2018.

‏Habshan 5 Fact File: ‏ Total cost US $6.85 billion.

‏ The concrete used to build the plant is sufficient to build the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa.

‏ The length of electrical and control cables, incorporated in the plant, can cover 20 per cent of the Earth’ surface.

‏ The amount of structural steel used can build 10 Eiffel Towers.

‏ The plant required 35,000 people to construct it.

‏ Habshan 5 achieved a world record with 130 million safe man hours during construction.

‏ The plant has the longest green road in the region, with 35 kilometres of solar street lights
