Cairo - Arab Today

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail met Tuesday with CEO of Maersk Drilling Claus V. Hemmingsen to discuss future cooperation with the Group in the field of gas and oil exploration.

Ismail told Hemmingsen that his government is working on a plan to develop existing oil fields, adding that new wells will be dug in the coming three years, said Cabinet spokesman Hossam Qaweesh.

The premier particularly mentioned the Delta and Mediterranean areas in Egypt, Qaweesh noted.

Ismail suggested that Maersk Drilling contribute to digging wells of underground water needed in agriculture in the Western Desert and Sinai, the spokesman added.

He assured Hemmingsen that the Egyptian government is acting to upgrade the infrastructure across the country in order to help implement mega projects, atop of which the Suez Canal Corridor, Qaweesh further said.

Hemmingsen, for his part, offered that his company contribute to operations to upgrade a number of Egyptian ports, as well as logistics activities related to the handling of containers.
