Cairo - Arab Today

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry heads for Israel on Sunday on an important visit aiming at pushing forward the Palestinian-Israeli peace process, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

The timing of the visit is important as it comes after the call of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on both sides to reach a comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian issue that would help set up an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders and guarantee security for Israel.

Shoukry visited Ramallah on June 28.

In Israel, Shoukry will hold lengthy talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on ways of activating international legitimacy resolutions in addition to regional developments and bilateral relations, the spokesman said.

Talks will cover putting into effect the understandings and agreements previously reached between the two sides and laying down necessary foundations to rebuild trust between the two sides in order to resume direct peace negotiations, Abu Zeid said.

Sisi's recent call for putting an end to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has helped activate regional and international efforts in a way that creates a good opportunity for the Palestinian and Israeli sides to end the long-standing conflict and achieve peace based on international legitimacy resolutions, the spokesman said.
