Ramallah - WAM
President Mahmoud Abbas Wednesday expressed hope that U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry brings something new and important on his next visit to the region. During an interview with al-Jazeera TV, Abbas said that the next meeting with Kerry would be the seventh, “We hope he brings with him something important because the success of the peace process is important for us.” “We confirmed and confirm our readiness to resume negotiations, and this is not the first time we do. We believe that the peaceful solution in the region, especially between us and the Israeli side is through negotiations,” said Abbas. He added that “we said more than once, if the Israeli government believes in the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, we are ready to return to the negotiation table.” Abbas pointed out that Kerry is exerting important efforts to bring back the two sides (Palestinian and Israeli) to the negotiation table. “We do not set conditions, but we say the basis on which we would return to negotiations.” “If the Israeli government is really agreeing to the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, which the whole world had agreed upon in the Road Map plan, then we can return to the negotiation table,” said Abbas.
