Egypt’s zoos under threat from clashes between protesters and police
Cairo - Mohammed al Dawi

Egypt’s zoos under threat from clashes between protesters and police Ecological experts have warned that tear-gas used in Giza, Egypt, to quell demonstrators has killed a number of animals in the nearby zoo, very close to Nahda Square .
Giza Zoo, is a zoological garden covering around 80 acres, and is home to many endangered species including the Californian sea lion, as well as a variety of tropical plants.
Supporters of former president of Egypt, Mohammed Morsi have been campaigning in the area, and were met with riot police who fired tear gas to disperse the crowds.
Dina Zulfikar, ecologist and an animal welfare activist told Arab Today “We are expecting many more deaths of animals kept at the zoo”.
She called on the Interior Minister to take precautionary measure and relocate the animals, as sit-in protests by demonstrators intensify around the country.
