Breeding centre in Sharjah to prevent endangered animals from becoming extinct

Concurrence with this year's Conservation of Arabia's Biodiversity session, the veterinary team of the Breeding Centre for Endangered Arabian Wildlife, which is attached to Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA), hosted 50 participants in a workshop about the Captive Care of Carnivores.
The workshop covered important topics like common metabolic, viral, fungal and bacterial diseases, neoplasia, dentistry, pain control and safe anaesthesia techniques.
"The breeding centre in Sharjah has made huge steps in helping to prevent the endangered animals from becoming extinct by building an information base for endangered animals in order to comply with the programme of breeding and care as per the Centre's approach and policy", said Hanna Al Suwaidi , Chairwoman of the Environment and Protected Areas in Sharjah.
Moreover, "The workshop was aimed at sharing expertise and best practice policies in animal management and veterinary care of captive carnivores and it has provided by many expertise and specialists in animal management and veterinary care" noted Al Suwaidi.
The Workshop had an excellent participation from many veterinarians expertise like Dr. Gerhard SteenKamp who is a specialist dentistry and maxillofacial surgeon from University of Pretoria in South Africa and Dr. John Lewis, Veterinary Director at Wildlife Vets International in England.
