Hemorrhaging fever kills 3 people

Highly infectious viral outbreak claims three lives in Uganda London – Naeem Arzu A highly infectious outbreak of hemorrhagic fever has killed three people in northern Uganda, the Health Ministry said .
Doctors are still treating a male for a confirmed case of Congo Crimean Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), with suspected links to the highly contagious and lethal Ebola viral fever, junior health minister Elioda Tumwesigye told a press conference.
CCHF is a tick-borne virus, which is highly infectious and endemic in livestock in Africa.  According to the Health Ministry, it kills 40 percent of people who become infected.
Uganda has suffered from several episodes of Ebola and another hemorrhaging fever, Marbug, since 2000.  The most recent case of Marbug was in October last year in the western city of Kibaale, which killed five people.
The largest outbreak of Ebola was in 2000, in the north of the country, which infected 425 people and killed more than half of them.
