Oasis Water and Dubai Cares to provide clean drinking water to children

Part of the proceeds from the sale of Oasis bottled water this Ramadan will go towards providing clean drinking water to children in developing countries.

The Put a Smile on a Child's Face initiative is being led by the Oasis Water Company in partnership with Dubai Cares.

"In an effort to promote quality primary education in developing countries, Dubai Cares provides water sanitation and hygiene facilities, hygiene awareness and education in schools,” said Bahaa Hamade, public relations manager at Dubai Cares.

"Oasis Water is highlighting the importance of clean water to students and schools. By purchasing an Oasis water bottle during the month of Ramadan, customers will help to provide clean drinking water to children in developing countries.”

The campaign's goal is to raise enough funds to provide clean drinking water for 10,000 children by giving their schools drinking water and sanitation infrastructure.

In many developing communities, children are unable to attend school because they must spend their days walking long distances to collect clean water for their families.

"Every child has a right to be healthy and to learn with dignity, and we can all play a role in helping them to achieve this,” said George Antonios, marketing director for Oasis.

"Whether we choose to donate our time, money or to drink a bottle of Oasis water, together we can help diminish the detrimental effect of the world water crisis, in the hopes of creating a brighter future for all of us.”

A Dubai Cares delegation led by chief executive Tariq Al Gurg also took part in the Oslo Summit on Education for Development in Norway yesterday to discuss issues critical to achieving universal access to quality education.

Mr Al Gurg said the charity organisation was inspired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and his firm belief that education is the most effective tool for breaking the cycle of poverty.

"To achieve this, a greater focus needs to be placed on the fragile and conflict affected states and situations,” he said at the summit.
