The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates organised a cultural evening to show a documentary production of Image Nation Abu Dhabi about Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai at Astor Film Lounge and project the country's efforts in supporting girls' education across the world.

Following the show of 'He Named Me Malala', a discussion session brought together German journalist and presenter Wolfram Kons; Image Nation's Danielle Perissi, Head of Documentary and Marketing and Communications at Image Nation Abu Dhabi; Catherine Mahoney of Malala Fund; Senior Campaigns Advisor at Malala Fund; German Youth Ambassador Kassandra Ramey; and Helle Gudmandsen of the Global Campaign for Education.

He Named Me Malala' is an intimate portrait of Malala who was targeted by the Taliban and severely wounded by a gunshot when returning home on her school bus in Pakistan's Swat Valley. The then 15-year-old was singled out, along with her father, for advocating for girls' education, and the attack on her sparked an outcry from supporters around the world. She miraculously survived and is now a leading campaigner for girls' education globally as co-founder of the Malala Fund.

The event was organised to mobilise support for girls' education ahead of the release of the film in German theatres on 22nd October.

It also distributed handouts in English and German highlighting the United Arab Emirates' support for women around the world and its funding of projects promoting gender equality in education in more than 170 countries.

Ambassador to Germany, Juma Mubarak Al Jenaibi, said the United Arab Emirates, since it was established, recognises the importance of women's education as a basic right and one of the prerequisites for full participation in the country's overall national development.
