Taxpayers may face €1 billion in health fines
London - James Campbell

Taxpayers may face €1 billion in health fines Health experts have said that millions of tourists are “at risk” due to poor water standards in some of Europe’s leading tourism destinations. European taxpayers could be liable to over €1 billion in fines, if standards are not raised to meet current European Union water laws. According to Breaking Travel News, the worst offenders have been cited as Romania, Spain, Bulgaria, Hungary and Italy. Popular city break destinations such as Madrid and Rome were also criticised. The UK was among a small number of countries that met water standards and were compliant with waste and water directives. The findings are worrying to some countries that rely on the tourism industry to supplement a large proportion of income.
