Deira Wharf accomplished by Dubai Municipality at entrance of Dubai Creek
Dubai - Arab Today

Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, yesterday inspected Deira Wharf, fully accomplished by the Dubai Municipality at a cost of Dh 250 million, at the entrance of Dubai Creek.

Sheikh Mohammed stopped at the wharf, observing the movement of arriving and departing boats loaded with cargo and commercial goods.

He was briefed on the harbour facilities and services being provided to large and medium boats and other facilities for some of competent local government departments.

Sheikh Mohammed directed for expansion of the wharf in the near future so that it becomes nearer to the Hamriya port in Deira.

Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group, and Khalifa Saeed Suleiman, Director- General of the Department of Protocol and Hospitality in Dubai.

While at the wharf, he was briefed about the safety features built into the facilities for users of the quay, deeming it "vital for the Dubai Creek for receiving tens of commercial ships and contributing to the revitalisation of the local trade and re-export, as well as raise the rate of economic growth in our country."

Hussein Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, expressed his satisfaction with H.H. Sheikh Mohammed's inspection visit to the Deira Wharf, which is equipped with the latest equipment and supplies to woo a number of commercial boats, including the larger African boat which has not been able to dock before the expansion and development of the quay, which can now receive bigger boats with ease.

"The port has been expanded for loading, unloading and storing. This definitely increases the capacity of the port to handle the larger commercial boats to activate the trade in Dubai in particular and in the UAE in general," Lootah said.
