Malnutrition in Yemen
Sanaa - Ali Rabea

Malnutrition in Yemen UNICEF announced on Monday that the European Commission donated 3.8 million Euros to support their activities addressing malnutrition among Yemeni children. This raised the amount provided by the European Commission to Yemen during the current year to 7 million euros. The aid will be used in monitoring and treating approximately 64 thousand malnourished Yemeni children under the age of five.
Yemen has one of the highest rates of malnutrition in the world and UNICEF claimed that: "One in eight children under the age of five is at risk of death from common childhood illnesses as a result of malnutrition, while more than half of the children under the age of five suffer stunted growth and mental retardation. One out of every ten children will not reach the age of five.”
The UNICEF office in Yemen informed Arabstoday that this additional assistance will enable it to prepare volunteers to conduct more tests on children, as well as enable them to have a safe water source. The organization, whose moves are aimed particularly at children living in hard to reach areas, provides advisory support on feeding practices and hygiene awareness to about 78 thousand women.
