Egyptian actress Elham Shahin Cairo – Mohamed Allouch Egyptian actress Elham Shahin expressed her sorrow for the death of Egypt's former intelligence chief Omar Suleiman. She explained how the news makes her very worried and sad. "I have not left home during Ramadan except to grieve and pay my respects to Suleiman. I'm very lazy during Ramadan and what helps me most is the presence of my brothers and their kids," she said.
Shahin said in her interview with Arabstoday that: “We enjoy living the atmosphere of Ramadan together, we gather at the same time for breakfast and spend the day together, apart from when I’m working.”
When asked about the current condition of the Egyptian government she stated: “The parliament was weird, and did not represent us as it should. We did not feel that its members expressed our needs and demands, as well as the  lack of seats available for women which I did not expect after the January 25 revolution.”
Shahin confirmed that she supports the dissolution of the legislative body: “It did not achieve anything for us, all the discussions were delaying progress. And if we started discussing the role of women in parliament, we would lose the progress we gained before and if we talk about education, someone want to prohibit teaching English. We found that all their discussions worked towards losing freedoms we gained.”
Shahin denied what was said about her opinion on those who voted for President Mohamed Morsi in the presidential run-off: “The person who wrote that I am criticising those who voted for Morsi and called them 'stupid' is somebody who lacks manners, and writes imaginary things. I am totally for freedom of thought and speech without insults, and I am against those who restrict the thoughts of anyone, so how could I say something that criticises an Egyptian that way? If I am against them, this doesn’t give me the right to insult them, and I am challenging who wrote this to prove it.”
The star said that “the second subject in the recent constitution is the same subject I hope to be in the new one they are writing now and not change the wording. We should separate religion from politics, Egypt was always been a moderate Islamic country and it did not discover Islam suddenly after the revolution”.
The Egyptian star expressed her sorrow for hearing the news of Suleiman’s death, saying: “I am very sad for the loss of this great national man with his honoured history which impressed the world and served his country.”
She added: “Thank God, I finished shooting 'Qadiat Ma'ali Al Wazeerah' (The Case of her Excellency the Minister) before Ramadan and that I received good reactions to the first episodes of the series although I hope audiences will watch the whole series in order to judge it, because it is worth the watch.”
As for the comments she received about her relationship with actor Tamer Hagras in the series, she said: “All these comments are for the benefit of the character, what is meant here in that the audience feels her actions are a failure in her life, which is considered a success to the character and the series, because we don’t want the audiences to sympathise with this love story.”
At the end of the interview, she referred to starting workshop sessions for "Yom Lel Setat" (A Day for women) which will be directed by Kamla Abo Zekry. The movie was originally delayed because Kamla was busy with her series "Zat" and Elham with "Qadiat Ma'ali Al Wazeerah".
As for “Haz West El Balad”  (Downtown Dance), she said it will be delayed for some time because of the instability of the film industry and the need for the preparation of 35 actors and actresses.
She is also preparing for another movie “Moftaraq Torok” (The Crossroads) which is written and directed by Halah Khalil.
