Officials at the Economic and Social Preparatory Council of the Arab Summit, prepared the draft resolutions to be submitted in the Arab Summit, on its 28th session scheduled to be held at the Dead Sea, on the items on the agenda of the summit in the economic and social files.

For his part, Assistant Secretary General for economic affairs at the Arab League (AL), Ambassador Kamal Hassan Ali, explained that the preparatory meeting of the Economic and Social Council of the Arab Summit discussed many issues will be submitted to the Arab summit.

He also announced at the end of the meeting that the officials have completed the preparation of draft resolutions that will be submitted to the Economic and Preparatory Council at the ministerial level next Sunday, including report of the Secretary-General on the joint Arab economic and social development and actions taken by the Arab States, the Secretariat of the Arab League, Joint Arab action on the follow-up to the implementation of economic, developmental and social decisions issued by the Nouakchott Summit last July.

He pointed out that the report of the Secretary-General of the Arab League dealt with the most important initiatives and large projects of joint Arab action in the economic and development fields, stressing that the council discussed a report on progress made in the Arab free trade area, and developments of the Arab customs union and its requirements.

According to Ali, the report included follow-up on the progress made in the implementation of previous resolutions on large projects, including initiatives by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to increase the capital of Arab funds to 50%, and the Emir of Kuwait to establish a fund to support small and medium enterprises.

The meeting also discussed the issue of refugees and displaced persons in light of the conflicts taking place in the Arab region, and the impact of the displacement issue on the economic and social burdens on some countries, specifically Jordan and Lebanon, Ali said.

Spokeswoman for the preparatory meetings, Ambassador Rima Alaa Eldeen, stressed that economic and social issues are top priorities on the agenda of the Amman Summit. She pointed out that the item of terrorism is one of the main challenges affecting Arab social development.

"The Arab strategy for scientific research, technology and innovation will be discussed in addition to the mechanism of implementing the initiative of the President of the Sudan for Arab agricultural investment in Sudan to contribute to bridging the gap as well as achieving food security in the Arab world.

Information and Communication Minister, Spokesman for the Jordanian Government, Mohammad Al-Momani, stressed the political importance of the Arab Summit and its economic, social and developmental dimension and its impact on enhancing the capacity of the Arab nation to face the challenges of the Arab regional security system. 

He also stressed the presence of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the President of the Arab Parliament, and a representative of the Russian President during the opening session at the level of leaders on 29 of this month.
