Syrian food market in Damascus Power cuts in the Syrian capital Damascus have resulted in the spoilage of food stored in refrigerators ahead of Ramadan .
Syrian authorities turned off power in some neighbourhood for up to 36 hours.
It meant families who had purchased and stored foods in advance of the Islamic month of fasting will now have to spend more money to acquire the same goods.
The spoilage heaps further financial pressure on Damascus' residents, who are already suffering from growing inflation and the rising price of the US dollar.
The Islamic holy month of Ramadan begins in the second week of July.
