Abdellatif Jouahri, Bank Al Maghrib’s Governor
Casablanca - Fatima Al Qabani

Abdellatif Jouahri, Bank Al Maghrib’s Governor, was named on Saturday “Best Central Bank Governor in the World” by the American magazine Global Finance. The award was received by Anis El Youssoufi, head of the International Relations Department at Bank-Al Maghrib, on the behalf of Jouahri.
The award ceremony was held in Washington D.C., at the National Press Club alongside the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank annual meetings. The award ceremony coincides with the Global Finance’s 30th anniversary.
In September, Jouahri also distinguished himself in the magazine’s “Central Banker Report Cards 2017,” an annual ranking established by Global Finance. The annual ranking, which evaluates the performance of governors from 83 countries, is based on a scale from “A” to “F”.
Founded in 1987, Global Finance launched its annual report card ranking for central bank heads in 1994. Joseph Giarraputo, the monthly magazine’s publisher and editorial director, said the latest edition notes that global central bankers are entering a tightening phase as they try to pull back from monetary policies like quantitative easing. Jouahri received an “A” score for excellent performance, which positioned him at the top of the list.
Jouahri managed to carve out a place for himself at the top of this world ranking. In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, Jouahri, the governor of Bank Al-Maghrib, aced the Global Finance report card ranking, improving his “A-” score from 2016. Jouahri joins Riad Salameh, the governor of the central bank of Lebanon, and Karnit Flug of Israel, as the only bankers from the Arab world to have ranked among the top worldwide.
