Brussels - Arab Today

The International Centre of Excellence for Countering Violent Extremism (Hedayah) recently participated in a high-level conference on consolidating a culture of tolerance, rejection of hate speech and crimes.

The event was attended by a group of academics and representatives of non-governmental organisations, the media and social networking sites from more than 47 member countries from all over Europe.

The participants discussed how best to counter intolerance and hatred in European societies, at the headquarters of the Council of Europe and under the auspices of its presidency in the Belgian capital, Brussels, on 8th May.

Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Hedayah Centre, stressed the importance of consolidating the values of tolerance and ways to disseminate these at local and global levels.

He underlined the importance of the centre's participation in the conference, which comes within the framework of strengthening relations with the EU, being the member of the Board of Directors of the centre.

Maqsoud Kruse, the Executive Director of Hedayah centre, reviewed the initiatives and activities carried out by the centre in this context, focusing on his tireless efforts to collect literature reflecting a positive discourse that counters the speeches inciting subversion and hate. He called for establishing the culture of tolerance to counter hate speech.
