Sharjah - Arab Today

Heart of Sharjah is gearing up to join three other destinations in Sharjah in hosting the 9th Sharjah Food festival, which will be organised by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) from March 25th – April 4th.
Heart of Sharjah will participate in the Sharjah Food Festival as a main venue to reflect Sharjah's Arab and Islamic character and its modern features that combine the contemporary civilization and the past.
The festival's activities held at Heart of Sharjah will include an old Souq designed to reflect how people were living in the 1950s in Sharjah’s traditional areas and a Bedouin Majlis where visitors will recall the way of preparing Bedouin food such as Al Qirs and the Emirati coffee through which the visitor takes a smell of the authentic past. The traditional food corner will be one of the favourite stops of the visit. In addition, Heart of Sharjah will host folklore bands, children activities and raffle draws which represent the symbolism of the heritage area in the vibrant Heart of Sharjah.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Yousif Al Mutawa, Manager of the Heart of Sharjah said: “we are glad that the Heart of Sharjah is one of the main destinations for the Sharjah Food Festival where visitors can smell and feel the past while still living in the present. We favoured the strong presence of the Heart of Sharjah in this year's culinary event to reflect the essence of Sharjah and its rich history through a miniature Bedouin Majlis reflecting traditional lifestyle of the people of Sharjah in the 1950s."
Heart of Heritage, the largest heritage restoration and development project in the Gulf region, is scheduled for completion by 2025. The 15-year historical restoration project aims to restore and revamp the traditional heritage areas of Sharjah and turn them into a lively cultural destination. The project plans to feature diverse commercial, cultural and residential projects. It also aims to create tourist and trade destinations, including a boutique hotel, restaurants, retail shops, art galleries, traditional and contemporary markets, archaeological sites, museums, play areas, and commercial offices which will be placed in renovated old or ancient houses to give current and next generations the opportunity to know about the emirate social and cultural history.
