Sharm El-Sheikh - Arab Today
UAE winners in Arab Youth Judo Championships The UAE has won a silver and two bronze medals in the Arab Youth Judo Championships which began in Egypt last week. Khalifa Al Hosani won second place, picking up a silver medal for the under 66 kg category in the 'Judo for Peace' contest.
16-year-old Al Hosani also came third in another category while another Emirati competitor, Salem Al Naqbi, picked up a bronze medal during the competitions.
Meanwhile, the Tunisian team took silver and the Egyptian team picked up the gold.
Mohamed bin Tha'loob Al Derai, President, UAE Wrestling, Judo and Kick Boxing Federation and Honorary President of the Arab judo team, said the UAE players performance was admirable, especially considering their young age and limited experience.
Al Derai added that the players future prospects looks very promising, especially given that they were able to compete at a successful level alongside more experienced teams from Egypt, Algeria and Morocco.
Al Derai also pointed out that an intensive training programme has been set up for the young judo team in preparation for the upcoming GCC championships which will take place in Kuwait in September. The competition, which was held in Sharm el-Sheikh, will come to a close tomorrow.
