Six men are wanted in relation to the killings Tunisia’s Interior Ministry published the photos of six people accused of killing the Tunisian politician Shoukry Belaid on February 6. The Ministry called for citizens to cooperate with authorities to arrest the accused.
National Democrats Party and Popular Front Coalition threatened to turn to the international judiciary if internal authorities failed to reveal the killers’ identities. They also demanded the Tunisian judicial authorities summon the Tunisian Prime Minister Ali el-Areed for testimony.
The ruling Ennahda Party stated that it has been affected negatively by the assassination, blaming the media for lowing the image of the Tunisian state abroad. Ennahda stressed the need action against those people who could threaten national security in the coming period.
The relatives of former government spokesperson, Fawzi Bin Murad, who died of a heart attack last week, have called for an autopsy to be carried out on his body. Murad had revealed that he knew serious details about the assassination of Belaid. The family of Murad has expressed skepticism around the cause of death.
Meanwhile, the current state of insecurity in Tunisia has raised fears of both the public and investors.
Investors have called for the Tunisian government to work to achieve stability. They warned that current financial insecurity could undermine the tourist season, deteriorating the economic situation.
