Parliament in an interview with Egyptian “Al Masry al-Youm”: “Government must keep its promise for the chronic diseases”

Despite the recommendations of the Egyptian parliament Health committee to the government not to raise the prices of the medicines of chronic diseases, the government failed to comply and raised the prices of all medicines, including those for chronic diseases.

The head of the Health committee in the Egyptian parliament “Mohammed Khalil” opened fire in an interview with “Al-masry al-youm” on the Ministry of Health and the government for failure to comply with the recommendations issued for the Medicine pricing process.

Khalil asserted that the medicine crisis will not end in moments as it represents a national security matter, calling for an immediate halt in the chaotic pricing process.

Petroleum products and medicine are the only subjects compelled to the forced pricing, added Khalil to exclude any manipulation in the prices.

Khalil said that pharmacies are obliged to sell the medicines before the decision of raising the prices made by its old price, meanwhile the new medicine can be sold by the new tariff.
Regarding the medicine crisis, Khalil said that the discussion will not stop until the government is committed to not raise the prices of chronic diseases medicines.

Khalil asserted that government allocated 800 million EGP based on the instruction of the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to import chronic diseases medicines, as the government is obliged to consider the low-income patients.

Khalil said that the health minister ” Ahmed Emad Aldin” should not held accountability for the corruption accumulated in the health sector for decades, refusing his dismissal.

Regarding the universal health insurance law, stipulated by the constitution, Khalil said that bill is currently being studied by the ministry of finance.

Khalil said that the new law will allow the Egyptian patient to receive treatment in any hospital, private or public, and the insurance will cover his treatment expenses.
