Algiers - Nacima Ourgali

Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika did not attend celebrations marking the "Night of Power" (Leyla al-Qader ) for the end of Ramadan on Wednesday , which has renewed concerns about the president's health.
The Algerian leader is a regular figure at the annual  celebrations, however this year his place was taken by Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal.
Political experts expect the absence of the Algerian president in public to continue for weeks.
Sources told Arab Today that medical staff, composed of four French doctors, are supervising the care of the Algerian leader.
Algerian newspaper al-Khabar said on Wednesday that Bouteflika has not left his place of residence since his return from Paris months ago.
It denied rumours which have been widely circulated  recently that the Algerian president is being transferred to Switzerland for treatment.
The newspaper added that medical staff are subjecting the president to a number of procedures targeting organs of the body that were affected by his stroke.
Bouteflika was expected to discuss the new financial law in the cabinet, as well as a number of issues relating to fuel, mining, investment and the media.
The Algerian parliament is unable to pass any laws without ratification by the president.
Al-Khabar revealed that Bouteflika's medical staff haverefused president from receiving any officialsduring Eid al-Fitr.
Furthermore, Algerian officials have not been allowed to visit the president since his return from France.
