The Moroccan king Mohammed VI The Moroccan king Mohammed VI finaly gave the green light for the formation of prime minister Benkirane’s upcoming government.A senior official in the Justice and Development Party said that “things are going well now for the arrangement of forming the government,” without mentioning any other details.
A special source said that the majority parties in the government had been on stand-by until the king’s approval.
Lawyer and human rights activist, Abdul Aziz Nouaydi warned in a press seminar in Rabat, that some prominent names had been prevented from joining the government such as Mustafa Ramid in the Ministry of Justice, stressing that the party’s leadership should not accept such an intervention again.
It was mentioned that the Deputy Secretary General of the Moroccan Press Syndicate, Abdullah Bakali was prevented from getting the minister of information and culture post, without mentioning any reasons being brought forward.
For his part, a senior official from the Popular Movement said that the movement was able to save Benkirane’s government after holding talks with the advisors council to ensure a majority for Benkirane in the council.
A close source to the PM said that Benkirane, who was a member in the banned Islamic Youth or Al-Chabiba Al-Islamiya movement, has visited Ahmed Benjelloun from the Democratic Socialist Vanguard Party, a brother of the party leader Omar Benjelloun who was assassinated by members of the Islamic Youth movement on 1975.
