Egypt celebrates the 38th anniversary of the glorious October 6 victory during the 1973 October War Cairo – Akram Ali Egypt celebrates the 38th anniversary of the glorious October 6 victory during the 1973 October War when the Egyptian army defeated the Israeli army and regained Sinai. Former President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak, was absent from the scene of official ceremonies for the first time, after the revolution.
Mosheer Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, President of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, was the major figure in the events today, which used to always sit next to Mubarak during the celebrations, and whisper in his ears between the minutes and the other, to brief him on the latest developments in the army.
The governor transferred Tantawi s congratulations to Sinai residents and honor for the martyrs of 1973 October War who scarified their souls for Egypt. The general council of Arish, which includes all tribute sheikhs, had a local march in the streets of Arish as a part of the celebration. They also visited the memorial of the Unknown Soldiers and placed flowers there.
In the governorate of Fayoum, its governor Ahmed Ali Ahmed attended the celebrations of the victory of the October War in Qaron Square. Celebrations began with singing the Egyptian anthem. Ahmed put flowers in memorial of the Unknown Soldier. The governor said the victory of the October War reminds Egyptians of great examples of sacrifice, bravery and national unity.
Deputies of Ministries of Social Solidarity, Housing, Education, Policemen and many Muslims and Christians attended the celebration ceremonies.
Tantawi, sent a congratulatory message to the nation, officers, soldiers and the armed forces, in which he said: "I send you my congratulatory in the 38th anniversary of the glorious October 6 victory, when the Egyptian army defeated the Israeli army and regained Sinai.”
He said: "This victory always will remain in our history as a national pride.”
The tone of the Egyptian media in the events today has changed, where they are talking about the national victory in October, in which millions of Egyptian people participated.
Al-Wasat party announced for the first time after 30 years that it will go to the Unknown Soldier memorial and put flowers on the grave of the former President Anwar Sadat, and the other soldiers.
Military aircrafts flied over Cairo today and the chairman of Egypt s ruling military council, Hussein Tantawi, visited and placed flowers on the memorial of the Unknown Soldiers in Nasr City on Wednesday morning, where Egypt s third president Anwar el-Sadat was assassinated and buried.
Some political forces rejected party invitations to rally in October 6th, saying that October 6 victory belongs to the people and the army, and there should be no actions  that disturb the purity of this day.
