Beirut - Georges Chahine

MP Sami Gemayel The Central Committee Coordinator of Lebanon's Kataeb Party, MP Sami Gemayel  honoured recently freed Lebanese prisoner Yaacoub Chamoun, who was released from a Syrian jail on Wednesday. Chamoun was arrested in 1985 and stayed for 27 years in the Syrian prisons.
The ceremony took place during a meeting held at Gemayel's office in Bickfaya with the Secretary General of Kataeb, Michel Khourystudents  and members from the party.
"His return today gave us hope in the youth and Lebanese people imprisoned until this day in Syria due to their political struggle or because of their strong affinity with Lebanon,” said Gemayel.
The Kataeb MP stressed "that time has come for the Lebanese prisoners in Syria to be unified since it is an issue that involves all the Lebanese people."
"From a humanitarian point of view, it is time to help these people return to their families. This matter is considered a national responsibility between the Lebanese state, the international community and the human rights organisations," he said, adding that he hopes that efforts will be intensified "so that everyone assumes his responsibilities in that regard."
Gemayel presented to Chamoun the "Kataeb pin" as a sign of honour.
After that, Chamoun stated: "I am pleased to return to my home and to my Kataeb family. MP Gemayel granted me a great responsibility by giving me this pin of which I am proud of."
His last words were thanking everyone for their love and their appreciation.
