Labour party claim Ennahda are exploiting the transition
Tunis - Azhar Jarboui
Labour party claim Ennahda are exploiting the transition Tunisian Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali has presented a new political contract to MPs. The document comes after dialogue surrounding cabinet reshuffles. It includes an agenda for the next government , listing: “fighting corruption, security and stability, supporting development, employment, fighting poverty and boosting investments," as priorities.
Tunisia’s ruling troika parties, Ennahda, Congress and Takatul, welcomed the document, while opposition MPs described it as a “failure” for merely perpetuating the policy of the old government.
A source told Arabstoday that a resolution on their dispute over the cabinet reshuffle has not been reached by the so-called troika parties because the Congress for the Republic and Takatul parties insist on neutralizing the Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs, a proposal which Ennahda refuses.
Minister of Agriculture Mohammed bin Salem revealed that Jebali has offered him the position of General Coordinator of the government. Head of the National Anti-Corruption league Samir Annabi revealed that he has also taken the Prime Minister up on an offer in a similar role. However Qais Al Said, a professor of constitutional law, denied that he was offered a postion within the new government.
The Labour party said in a statement to Arabstoday that it was calling for a renewed government with different characteristics and agendas, claiming that the delays in the reshuffle reflects Ennahda’s intentions to extend the crisis and prolong the transition for their own gain.
