Algerian army soldiers Algiers – Hocine Bousaleh Five Algerian army soldiers were killed and three others were injured on Friday following an attack by Al-Qaeda. The incident took place on the first day of Eid al-Adha. The soldiers were about to ambush Al-Qaeda militants at the border between the cities of Tizi Ouzou and Bejaia.
In a surprising twist of events, the gunmen stormed the area were the soldiers were and began shooting at them. The attackers also used grenades and both sides were locked in crossfire.
The three injured soldiers were brought to hospital with critical conditions.
The army arrested five Al-Qaeda gunmen, local sources said.
Both villages were locked in constant disputes and clashes between Al-Qaeda and the army forces.
